Quad Experience

One of the best ways to discover the mountains around us is on the back of a quad bike. Routes typically wind through the market town of Monchique and climb up to Fóia, at 902 metres the highest peak in the Algarve, with stunning views over the region and through woodland thick with stone pines and cork trees.

Along the Way

Monchique itself is worth slowing down for: a village of narrow, winding streets and a charming central square with fountains and flower beds. It's also known for Medronho, a strong local spirit distilled from strawberry tree fruit, and for its excellent local honey, both good souvenirs if you spot them along the route.

Higher up, Fóia's elevation means noticeably cooler air than down in the valley, a welcome break on a hot day. On a clear day, the summit offers sweeping views of both the south and west coasts of Portugal, one of the best panoramas in the whole region.
