Wildwatch

Not far from the quinta, based in Ferragudo near Portimão, Wildwatch is one of the most genuine wildlife experiences the Algarve has to offer. Unlike a typical tourist boat trip, Wildwatch is run by a team of marine biologists and conservationists with a real, lifelong connection to the sea.

The Story Behind Wildwatch

Wildwatch was founded by André Dias, who comes from generations of Algarve fishermen and went on to study marine biology at the University of Algarve. After years spent reviving the family fishing business and training extensively in ecotourism, marine mammal observation, and seabird monitoring, he turned a lifelong dream into reality, founding Wildwatch in 2012.

"The ocean is my life since I can remember. I felt the need to share my passion, putting together the ingredients for an unforgettable experience that you can take through life."

What You Can Expect to See

Trips head out from the marina in search of dolphins and other marine life along the Algarve coast. Sightings vary with the day and the season, but past guests have spotted bottlenose, striped, common, and Risso's dolphins, along with the occasional minke whale or even orca. Seabirds are common companions along the way too.

Every trip is guided by the crew's genuine knowledge of the local marine ecosystem, so it's as much a learning experience as an adventure, whatever you happen to encounter that day.

A Conservation First Approach

What sets Wildwatch apart is what happens behind the scenes. Rather than a purely commercial operation, any profits are reinvested into marine research and conservation. The team collects data on every trip, genuinely cares about the animals they show you, and are refreshingly honest that wildlife can never be guaranteed, they'd rather be upfront about that than overpromise.

"Our promise is to do our best to offer you a great experience, sharing our knowledge, our passion, and our concerns."
